After reading it the quest didn't update. All bugs listed below are found to have been occurring in game version 1.3 and 1.4: It's just a gameplay thing that you use your sharp swords and cut them down.

Not A Gamebreaking Stuff At All But Its A Weird One.

If i travel to novigrad i can, but if i travel back to skellige or open a save prior to completing the quest i cannot. Several of the rpg's are doing this now, only having quick save or checkpoint saves in the end game. Bug with completing 'possession' quest.

What You Can Do Is Quick Save If You Are Not In Combat Or Being Threatened Or In The Middle Of A Main Quest.
